SSD Data Wiping UK: Flash-Aware, Verified Erasure

Secure erasure of SATA, NVMe and M.2 solid-state drives using firmware sanitize and cryptographic erase, with a data erasure certificate for every job.

SSD Data Wiping Services in the UK

Solid-state drives (SSDs) store data in flash memory, and they behave very differently from hard drives. Our SSD data wiping service uses flash-aware methods that clear the whole device, including areas the operating system cannot see, then verifies the outcome and issues a data erasure certificate.

We wipe SATA, NVMe, M.2 and enterprise SSDs from all major brands.

Why SSDs Need a Different Approach

An SSD controller spreads writes across flash cells using wear levelling, and keeps spare capacity (over-provisioning) that software cannot address. That means a normal overwrite from the operating system may never touch every cell that holds your data, and deleting files or even TRIM does not guarantee erasure. This is why guidance such as NIST 800-88 points to firmware-level commands and cryptographic erase for flash media.

How We Wipe SSDs

Firmware sanitize commands

NVMe Sanitize or ATA Secure Erase commands instruct the drive itself to clear all storage, including hidden areas.

Cryptographic erase

On self-encrypting drives, destroying the key renders the stored data unreadable. It is fast and widely used.

Verification

Results are checked and logged per serial number, and drives that fail go to destruction.

Because implementations vary between manufacturers, we match the method to the drive and verify the result rather than trusting a single command blindly.

SSD Types We Wipe

  • SATA 2.5 inch SSDs
  • NVMe and M.2 drives
  • U.2 and enterprise server SSDs
  • Self-encrypting drives (SED)
  • SSDs inside laptops, desktops and servers

For spinning disks see our hard drive wiping service.

Collection, On-Site and Off-Site Options

You choose where the wiping happens. We offer free secure collection anywhere in the UK, with equipment tracked from pickup to completion, and wipe it at our facility. If your SSDs cannot leave your site, our on-site data wiping service means the data never leaves your premises, and you can witness the process. For large clearances see our bulk data wiping service.

Proof of Erasure

Every job ends with a data erasure certificate and a detailed report. Records are kept per device, including serial numbers, the erasure method, date and result, so you have audit-ready evidence for your asset register, your clients and your regulator. See how this supports GDPR accountability in our compliance guide.

If a Device Cannot Be Wiped

Faulty, damaged or unresponsive devices cannot be wiped reliably. These go through certified data destruction, and you receive proof of destruction, so the data is protected either way.

Our Process in 4 Steps

  1. Send details. A list or photo of the equipment is enough.
  2. Free quote. A clear, fixed quote within 24 hours.
  3. Collect and wipe. Free secure collection, or wiping on your site.
  4. Certificate and report. Verified results and proof for your records.

Who We Wipe For

We provide this service to NHS trusts, councils, schools and universities, IT companies, private businesses and corporate offices across the UK, from a single device to thousands.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers on this topic. Still unsure? Send us the details and we will take a look.

Ask Us a Question
Can an SSD be wiped securely?
Yes, using flash-aware methods such as firmware sanitize commands or cryptographic erase, with verification.
Why not just overwrite an SSD?
Wear levelling and over-provisioned space mean a software overwrite may not reach every cell holding data.
Does TRIM erase an SSD?
No. TRIM tells the drive which blocks are unused but does not guarantee the data is erased.
Do you wipe NVMe and M.2 drives?
Yes, along with SATA and enterprise SSDs.
What happens if an SSD cannot be wiped?
It goes through certified data destruction, with proof provided.
Do I get a certificate for SSD wiping?
Yes, with serial-level records for every drive.
Can SSDs be wiped inside laptops or servers?
Yes. We can wipe drives in place or after removal, depending on the equipment.
