BitRaser Drive Eraser: Cloud, Offline and Network Variants Explained
An independent guide to Stellar's BitRaser: variants, features, licensing and limits, and when it makes sense to use a professional wiping service instead.
What Is BitRaser?
BitRaser is a data erasure product family from Stellar, best known for BitRaser Drive Eraser. It is a bootable tool for erasing HDDs and SSDs in PCs, laptops, Macs, Chromebooks and servers, and it focuses on tamper-resistant erasure certificates and a cloud console for managing users, licences and reports. Stellar also offers mobile and file erasure tools.

BitRaser Drive Eraser Variants
| Variant | How it works | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud | Licences and reports managed in the BitRaser cloud console; software downloaded as an ISO for bootable USB | Teams who want central licence and report management |
| Offline | Runs from a USB licence key without internet; reports exported later | Secure sites without connectivity |
| Network Cloud | Bulk erasure over a network through PXE boot | Service providers and large estates |
| Admin Console | Certified bulk erasure for centralised, large-scale deployments | Enterprises, quote-based |
Stellar describes these options in its own comparison sheets, so confirm current variants before purchase.
Key Features
- Erasure reports and certificates, with options to customise branding and export to the cloud
- Support for 24 international erasure standards including NIST 800-88 and DoD methods, per Stellar
- Independent claims listed by Stellar, including ADISA assurance for NIST and IEEE Clear and Purge methods and Common Criteria EAL 2
- Support for Apple devices with T-series and M-series chips and for Chromebooks, according to Stellar's comparison sheet
- Optional integrations and an API for asset management tools
- Companion tools for mobile devices and file erasure
Pricing Model
Cloud variants are described as pay-per-drive licences, so cost scales with how many drives you erase. The Admin Console and network editions are quote-based. As with any licensed tool, budget for operator time and setup as well as the licence.
Limitations to Consider
- Per-drive licensing can add up for large volumes
- Cloud variants depend on connectivity for reporting, while offline variants have fewer management features
- As with all erasure software, chain of custody and destruction of failed drives remain your job
- Check which software version holds any independent certification you rely on
